Media to choose from:
DVD

Capacity: 4.7 GB
Media life: 7 years

The most basic choice. It works everywhere. Enough for a 1 hour video.

Cheap medium. You can easily copy it yourself. Just be sure to put it back in the box after viewing so it doesn’t get scratched.

DVD-DL or dual layer DVD

Capacity: 8.5 GB
Media life: 7 years

This Dual Layer DVD records in two tracks therefore also a larger, almost 2x capacity.
We recommend it for 4K shots, so if you have chosen such a package.
For FullHD quality, a plain DVD or M-DISC is quite enough.

If there is one longer video, we optimally decide which medium to choose.

Blu-ray

Capacity: 25 GB
Media life: 7 years

These media have been tested for scratch resistance compared to DVD and DVD DL.

A special reader is needed for these media. It’s best to check in advance if your reader has such an icon (usually on the right):

Even if you want to copy this medium yourself e.g. as a gift for parents, witnesses need a blu-ray recorder.

M-DISC dvd

Capacity: 4.7 GB
Lifespan of the medium: 1000 years!

It is resistant to scratches, 85% humidity, one day exposure to the sun and high temperatures.
All other media would be damaged, unreadable or destroyed under these loads. The only “problem” is the oxidation of the medium, but according to the manufacturer, this should not be a problem before 10 centuries 🙂

What kind of readers will not read these media. If you bought a computer in the last year it is somewhere 90% that the medium will read.

Expensive medium compared to others. If you really want to preserve memories for your great-great-great-grandchildren then definitely choose this option. Well, if there will still be a disc reader at that time 🙂 The price of the package includes one such medium.

Note: If your medium does not work on your reader, we will not exchange it for another for free. We test each M-DISC medium before sending it to the post office and it definitely works. Please check on the internet beforehand to be 100% sure. The prices of dvd units are around 20 €, so you can also decide to change your unit.

Today’s LCD TVs have almost all USB ports, you don’t need plug-in outdoor units. Also, some smaller and / or more modern computers only have a USB port and not for DVDs and similar units.

The advertised lifespan is around 8 years, but in our experience, some key (it can be the best brand) has already stopped working after a year or two, and we have had some for almost 10 years. The price of these keys also varies at the same capacity, but there is no guarantee of data stability. We are also not responsible for the lifespan of the keys, more than half a year. Conclusion

Whatever you choose, we suggest that you save your data on your computer or better on several computers. This will protect you against media theft and possible serious damage to the media (breaking the DVD).
